Private Label lets you sell fragrance under your own brand name without formulating anything from scratch. Here's how the process actually works, step by step.
Step 1: Choose your fragrance
Select from an existing library of proven, market-tested scents, or request a custom blend closer to a specific profile you have in mind. Starting from an existing base is faster and lower-risk than commissioning an entirely new fragrance.
Step 2: Decide on concentration and volume
Most Private Label perfume runs use 25% Extrait de Parfum for premium positioning. Order volumes typically start at 100pcs for a first production run, scaling to 1000pcs+ as your brand grows.
Step 3: Packaging and branding
This is where your brand becomes distinct: bottle shape, cap style, label design, and box packaging. Some suppliers offer stock packaging with your label applied; others support fully custom bottle molds for larger orders.
Step 4: Compliance
Before selling in the EU, your finished product needs a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) and CPNP notification. Many Private Label suppliers can provide compliant base formulations and guide you through this process.
Step 5: Production and fulfillment
Once approved, your order goes into production. Turnaround typically ranges from 2–6 weeks depending on packaging complexity and order size.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Committing to large minimum orders before testing market demand
- Skipping compliance steps to save time (this can get your listings removed from marketplaces)
- Choosing packaging before confirming it fits your target retail price point
